BROAD WARRIOR
(Commissioned by The Eli Broad Graduate School of Management, Michigan State University)
This sculpture embodies the warrior's road to enlightenment; his weapons being a book (the base), a quill and ink-well (right foot and leg), and the notebook he firmly holds to his heart. Symbolizing this journey of consciousness is a path which begins on the book and meanders up the warrior's right leg and torso to the back of his head where the flower of inspiration unfolds and blossoms forth to vanquish the coming onslaught of ignorance. Writhing along the figure's right flank is the agonized tail of a conquered beast.
